The DC Streetwear Exhibition, the second exhibition from the notable DOCUMENT the Fresh series, is an online and live exhibition series highlighting the streetwear scene in (Washington) DC from 1984 – 2000.

The live exhibitions will focus on a range of legendary and influential DC streetwear brands featuring sketches of designs, screen prints, apparel, and additional memorabilia (event photos, photos of storied retailers, etc…).  Interviews of brand owners and designers, which will include stories behind specific designs, will also be included.

The exhibition will serve as a time capsule giving attendees a history lesson on DC’s streetwear scene, DC’s influence on streetwear, globally, as well as provide insights on the convergence of music and fashion as it related to youth culture in DC during the 80’s – the early 2000’s.

The online exhibition will serve as a running photo album featuring photos, submitted by DC area residents, from 1984 – 2000 that detail the fashions (shirts, hoodies, pants, footwear, accessories, etc…), dates, and locations from those eras.

The online exhibition will provide further context for the live exhibitions and, more importantly, give light to the sheer vastness of specific styles of dress/outfits (even as they related to different neighborhoods/quadrants), feature brands not shown in the live exhibition, and highlight an attitude and feeling that influenced and produced an authentic creative cultural and entrepreneurial DC movement that persists to this day.
